The Pittsburgh Steelers trailed for much of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, but a late rally — outscoring the Jets 17-6 in the fourth quarter — powered them to a thrilling 34-32 victory.
Leading the way was veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making his first start with the Steelers. The 41-year-old completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns.
Following the matchup, CBS Sports, which broadcast the game, announced historic news about Rodgers’ debut performance.
Over the last 60 NFL seasons, Rodgers is the only quarterback to record 240-plus passing yards, four or more passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions in his team debut.
He also notched his 28th career game with four touchdowns and zero interceptions, tying Tom Brady for the most in NFL history.

This matchup carried plenty of drama, as it marked Aaron Rodgers’ return to MetLife Stadium to face the Jets, where he spent the last two seasons in a stint that fell far short of expectations. It was also Justin Fields’ return to Pittsburgh after serving as part of the Steelers’ quarterback rotation last year.
Postgame, Rodgers made it clear how much the win meant against one of his former teams.
“I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets,” Rodgers said when asked about facing Jets head coach Aaron Glenn.
Since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, the Steelers have endured a quarterback carousel. While Aaron Rodgers is certainly not the long-term solution—he’s already made it clear this is likely his final season—it was a welcome sight to see stellar quarterback play return to Pittsburgh.
Rodgers finished with a 136.7 passer rating, the highest by a Steelers quarterback in a single game over the last seven seasons. For comparison, Russell Wilson posted a 126.4 rating last year, while Roethlisberger recorded a 125.4 in 2020.
