CBS fires NFL analyst Dan Fouts, eyeing Charles Davis

NFL analyst Dan Fouts has been sacked by CBS, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.

CBS now is targeting Fox's NFL analyst Charles Davis as Fouts' potential replacement. However, Fox wants to hang on to Davis, according to Marchand.

Fouts' contract with CBS ended at the end of this season, and their top priority was to keep Tony Romo on board for a very, very long time.

Fouts, 69, is a Hall of Famer and has been in broadcasting since soon after he retired in 1987. If he does want to continue his television career, Marchand writes that he'll likely have to accept a role covering college football.

With CBS looking to fill the position, it's unlikely they target former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning because he already turned down a role with ESPN.

Considering the NFL has expanded its postseason format and CBS has another playoff game to cover this coming season, they'll want to get that spot filled sooner rather than later.
