CBS Sports labeled the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room the worst in the NFL on Tuesday. The report also criticized QB Shedeur Sanders for his inability to release the ball quickly. This No. 1 ranking highlights the franchise’s ongoing struggle to find a stable leader.

CBS Sports’ report explained the Browns’ unstable 4-QB room situation and underperformance. It also mentioned that the Browns’ ongoing struggles stemmed from injuries, inconsistent play, and roster decisions, particularly at quarterback.

The report stated, “There is no quarterback room more chaotic than that of the Cleveland Browns,” calling out the team’s lack of clarity, also raising concerns about Sanders’ most notable flaw of “holding on to the football too long.”

It states the issues within Browns’ setup. QB Deshaun Watson has worked hard to stay healthy and productive, while younger options like Sanders are still raw.

Watson has played 19 games in four seasons, completing 341 passes for 3,365 passing yards. His less-efficient 6.0 yards-per-attempt average ranks near the bottom and has left the Browns without a responsible leader.

Other quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green, have yet to demonstrate consistency at minicamp. Gabriel’s 59.5% completion rate and a 1-5 record as a starter show inconsistency, while Green’s athletic advantage is overlooked due to turnover issues and accuracy.

This is the final year of Watson’s contract. Having two Achilles tears in the past, he missed his 2025 season. He finally returned in April and has made appearances at the Browns’ minicamp, but besides his health, there are other aspects to consider.

Deshaun Watson Faces Uncertain Future as Shedeur Sanders Awaits

Instead of stepping in 2026 with a chance to reclaim his position, Watson appears to be far from secure, especially with younger options like Shedeur Sanders in line.

According to Zac Johnson of The Athletic, “The chances of Watson being with the Browns past this season are extremely low.”

Watson is heading into the final year of his $230 million deal, and the franchise appears ready to move on after the season.

Sanders, still early in his career, has been identified as a long-term option at the position. However, according to Heavy.com, Andrew Berry, the Browns’ GM, mentioned that the QB1 position will not be determined only by their long-term prospects.
