Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports has released his post-draft NFL quarterback power rankings, placing second-year standout Jayden Daniels at the top. He's followed by Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow, with Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes appearing in spots No. 4 through No. 6.
A bit further down the list is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who is poised to become one of the NFL's highest-paid players. Naturally, the prospect of a massive new contract has sparked ongoing debate about his value, as fans and analysts continue to argue over where Purdy ranks among the league's best signal-callers.
Benjamin places Purdy at No. 10 overall, after Matthew Stafford, Jordan Love, and Jared Goff.
"Did the injury-propelled woes of San Francisco's 2024 season end up dragging Purdy into mercurial territory? Yes," Benjamin wrote. "But he's been superb as Kyle Shanahan's point guard for the majority of his three NFL seasons, and people still don't give him enough credit for the way he extends plays."
Benjamin's ranking aligns with comments made by 49ers owner Jed York, who was asked in April whether he considers Purdy a top-10 quarterback.
"I think he is. I think he's great," York said. "Especially when you combine him with Kyle and you combine him with what we have. He's a heck of a quarterback, and we want him to be here for a long, long time."
Through three NFL seasons, Purdy has led the 49ers to two NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl, throwing for 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. His 4,280 passing yards in 2023 set a new single-season franchise record, an impressive feat considering the rich quarterback history of the organization.
Entering his fourth NFL season, Purdy looks to help the 49ers bounce back from a disappointing 6-11 finish in 2024.
