Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb didn't talk to reporters postgame after the team's Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, in which he had a costly fumble inside the opponent's 10-yard line and also recorded a drop toward the end of the game that would've moved the chains.
Lamb's body language and a sideline exchange with Dak Prescott put him under the microscope as even Tom Brady weighed in during the FOX broadcast. Postgame, Prescott commented on Lamb, at one point saying there's no time to dwell during a game.
On Tuesday, Lamb finally spoke to the media ahead of the team's big game against the New York Giants. In a positive sign for he and the Cowboys, the star wide receiver was candid.
“I know that’s not the player I am," Lamb told reporters, via The Athletic's Jon Machota. "I know that’s not the teammate I am. (...) It was a bad game on my end. I fully take accountability in that... I will be better in the future. And it’s gonna be fine.”
The Cowboys really need him to keep his word, and that goes for two aspects of his game: 1) As a playmaker, he can't be the one making costly mistakes like that fumble that loomed large in what turned out to be a three-point loss and 2) He can't be the harbinger of negative energy when things aren't going well.
Many people pointed out the Cowboys are missing some Dez Bryant-esque energy on the sidelines these days, referring to the times where Bryant would call out teammates and coaches while firing up the team to fight back on the field. However, Lamb's attitude on Sunday more closely resembled a tantrum. That's not an attempt to pile on on CeeDee but rather a description of what happened on Sunday.
Moving forward, Lamb's on-field frustration has to be channeled in a more beneficial way for the team. That's part of what being the second-highest paid wide receiver in football is supposed to be.
Fortunately for CeeDee, that shift can happen quickly, as the Cowboys get a chance to shake things off with a game against the Giants on Thursday Night Football.
