Chargers Announce Justin Herbert News on Sunday

The Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert entered Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders determined to bounce back from a humiliating 35‑6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars . Early in the first quarter, Herbert hooked up with Quentin Johnston on a short crossing route for a 10‑yard touchdown – a textbook throw that gave the Chargers a 7‑0 lead and seemed like the spark they needed.

But the optimism appeared to be short‑lived. On the drive, Herbert took a hit and injured his non‑throwing left hand, sending him to the locker room for evaluation. He was officially tagged “questionable to return.” Backup Trey Lance entered under center as medical staff assessed the injury.

Herbert did return early in the second quarter, this time wearing a padded glove and taped fingers. He resumed play and helped stabilize the offense.

After the game, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh disclosed that Herbert has a fracture in his left hand and is scheduled to undergo a medical procedure on Monday. When asked whether Herbert might miss time, Harbaugh said he didn’t know and would wait to see how the week unfolds (via The Athletic’s Daniel Popper).

Herbert also addressed the injury, saying both he and the team are hopeful he can play next Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles in what will be one of the most important games of the season for Los Angeles (via Chargers reporter Fernando Ramirez).

Despite the scare, Herbert finished the game strong, completing 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Chargers claimed a 31-14 win, improving to 8-4 and remaining perfect in AFC West play this season.

The result delivers a welcome boost for Los Angeles, but Herbert’s hand injury looms as a significant concern. As the team heads into a tough stretch with critical upcoming games, the procedure and recovery timeline will be closely watched throughout the week.

With the Chargers navigating one of the toughest remaining schedules in the NFL – including matchups against the Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Denver Broncos – having Herbert healthy is vital for their push in a competitive AFC West race and their playoff positioning.
