The Los Angeles Chargers are facing the Minnesota Vikings at home to start Week 8 on "Thursday Night Football." They have a 4-3 record with wins over the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins.

The Chargers have dealt with several major injuries to start the season. Running backs Najee Harris (Achilles) and Omarion Hampton (ankle) are both on the injured reserve. Harris' injury has knocked him out for the season.

It's been a big blow in Los Angeles, which ranks 25th in rushing attempts (160) and 13th in total rushing yards (778) through the first seven games, according to Pro Football Reference.

To make matters worse, the Chargers ruled out running back Hassan Haskins against the Vikings due to a hamstring injury. The only healthy running back on the active roster was 2024 sixth-round pick Kimani Vidal.

However, on Thursday, via an X post, the Chargers announced they activated running backs Nyheim Hines and Jaret Patterson from the practice squad.

Hines, a sixth-year veteran, is a former fourth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts. This is his first season with Los Angeles, and he has appeared in two games. In 2020 with the Colts, he recorded career highs in rushing yards (380) and touchdowns (three).

Patterson started his NFL career with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent in 2021. As a rookie, he had 266 rushing yards and two touchdowns. This is his second season with the Chargers, but he has yet to make an in-game appearance this year.

Going into Week 8, Los Angeles issecond in the AFC West behind the 5-2 Broncos. The offense may need to rely heavily on Hines and Patterson with three other running backs out.

Kickoff between the Chargers and the Vikings is at 8:15 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium, airing on Amazon Prime Video.
