The Los Angeles Chargers endured a difficult outing in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, with quarterback Justin Herbert facing a rough day on multiple fronts. Despite returning after an early injury scare, Herbert was eventually replaced late in the contest as the Chargers trailed 35-6.

Early Injury Scare

The trouble began late in the second quarter. With the Chargers trailing 14-6, Herbert took a brutal hit on a sack by Jaguars defensive lineman B.J. Green II, who slammed Herbert’s upper body into the turf. Green was flagged for roughing the passer, but an offsetting illegal formation penalty nullified the impact on the play.

Herbert left the field briefly but returned for the opening drive of the third quarter. “Herbert was understandably slow getting up after the play,” noted reporting from ESPN, but he was later seen warming up and appeared “just fine” heading into the second half.

Offensive Struggles Persist

Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?

Even after returning, Herbert struggled to generate momentum. On the first drive back, he threw two incomplete passes, forcing a punt after just three plays. His next series ended with an interception on the first play, allowing the Jaguars to extend their lead to 35-6.

By the fourth quarter, Trey Lance had taken over at quarterback. Herbert finished the day 10-for-18 with just 81 passing yards, one interception, and no touchdowns. He also led the Chargers in rushing with 21 yards, highlighting the offense’s overall difficulties.

Herbert ended his day completing just 55 percent of his passes for just 81 yards, a new career low.

Season Context and Implications

Entering Week 11, Herbert had been enjoying a strong season. The two-time Pro Bowler had accumulated 2,610 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, and a 67.0% completion rate, alongside one rushing touchdown. The 7-3 Chargers now face the prospect of dropping two games behind the Denver Broncos in the AFC West with a loss, while a victory would help them remain in the playoff mix.

“It’s a bit shocking to see the offense struggling so much against Jacksonville’s defense,” said analysts covering the game.

The Chargers’ struggles show the challenges of sustaining consistency in the NFL with an injury-riddled offensive line, even with a franchise quarterback of Herbert’s caliber. As Los Angeles looks toward future games, maintaining Herbert’s health and finding an offensive rhythm will be critical for keeping their postseason hopes alive.
