Chargers coach gives fans a hint to who they will pick in first round
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers have a new offensive staff that is quite exciting.

It sounds like they also have a plan in place to get the most out of quarterback Justin Herbert. That should be their biggest item on the docket for next year and beyond. One of their new coaches may have given fans a hint at who they will pick early in the 2024 NFL Draft, too.

In a discussion with beat writers last week, new Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman mentioned an improved running game as a key to continued (and further) success of Justin Herbert in the future.

“I can frame it this way: Can you imagine Justin Herbert with a great running game? That’s kind of how I look at it.” -- Roman via The Athletic

So, how does that hint towards an offensive lineman in the first round for Los Angeles?

Well, there is no running back worth selecting with a top-ten pick. Plus, Notre Dame's Joe Alt is an extremely impressive run blocker as he enters the NFL.

Alt is a blue-chip type of prospect. He's one that deserves to go in the top three picks. Now, he probably won't due to the quarterback need of teams selecting in the top five.

That being said, he would be a franchise OT for the Chargers going forward and help them balance their attack in a major way.
