Chargers Dealt Troubling Update After Loss to Commanders

Los Angeles Chargers first-round rookie Omarion Hampton has been heating up of late. The former North Carolina Tar Heels star running back has scored touchdowns in back-to-back games heading into Sunday’s matchup against Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders, along with 270 rushing yards on 54 carries. Hampton has also registered 14 catches for 110 receiving yards in his first four games in the NFL.

Unfortunately for the Chargers, Hampton was unable to finish Sunday’s disappointing 27-10 loss to the Commanders due to injury. The 22-year-old was forced to exit the game in the fourth quarter and was unable to return.

The bad news for L.A. is that, according to Chargers beat reporter Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Hampton was seen in a walking boot on his left ankle as he left the Chargers locker room after the game.

While there has been no official update from the Chargers as of yet, the fact that Hampton was in a walking boot seems to indicate that the ankle injury could be a cause for concern. This does not necessarily mean that he will be forced to miss time because of this issue, but it appears that the No. 22 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft will be nursing an injury heading into L.A.’s Week 6 matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Hampton will likely undergo tests after the game, which should determine the extent of the injury. For now, however, the Chargers may need to make further adjustments in their running game, especially after losing Pro-Bowl RB Najee Harris to a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 3.

The Chargers have now suffered back-to-back defeats and have fallen to 3-2 on the season. Justin Herbert and Co. will want to get back to winning ways in Week 6 against the Dolphins, but they might need to do it without Hampton in the mix.
