Chargers Have Shut Down Trade Offers For Veterans

According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, the Chargers have shut down trade inquiries for their veteran players like OLB Khalil Mack and WR Quentin Johnston despite an 0-6 start.

The Bears were expected to be among the teams interested in a trade for Mack before acquiring DT Jeffery Simmons, but Breer says the Chargers seems unwilling to give up on the season entirely just yet. He does think things could change with another loss in Week 8 against the Rams.

Mack, 35, is a former first-round pick out of Buffalo, selected by the Raiders in 2014. Mack played out the final year of his four-year, $18,677,002 deal, and the Raiders picked up his fifth-year option.

The Raiders later traded Mack to the Bears in a deal that included two first-round picks. Mack signed a six-year, $141 million extension with Chicago that included $90 million guaranteed.

In 2022, the Chargers acquired Mack in exchange for draft compensation after four seasons in Chicago. After finishing out his contract, Mack re-signed with the Chargers on a one-year, $18 million deal for the 2025 season.

In 2026, Mack has appeared in three games for the Chargers, recording eight total tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.

We’ll have more ahead of the trade deadline as the news becomes available.
