Chargers' Joey Bosa, Jerry Tillery placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Los Angeles Chargers fell to 5-4 on the season via this past Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings and are facing more bad news ahead of this coming Sunday's prime-time matchup against the 5-3-1 Pittsburgh Steelers.

Per Grant Gordon of the NFL's website, the Chargers placed star pass-rusher Joey Bosa and defensive tackle Jerry Tillery on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday. Per league rules, a player fully vaccinated who tests positive for the coronavirus can return to team activities if he's asymptomatic and also produces a pair of negative virus tests at least 24 hours apart. Unvaccinated players who test positive must isolate away from their clubs for a minimum of 10 days.

Gordon didn't mention if either Bosa or Tillery are vaccinated, if they tested positive, or if they were deemed high-risk close contacts.

According to ESPN stats, Bosa currently leads the Chargers with 5.5 sacks and is tied for the team lead with three forced fumbles on the campaign. Tillery is second behind Bosa with 2.5 sacks.

As for the Steelers, head coach Mike Tomlin said earlier in the day that starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could return to the lineup for the Chargers game after he missed this past Sunday's tie with the Detroit Lions because he tested positive for COVID-19. All-Pro pass-rusher T.J. Watt is trying to work through hip and knee injuries by Sunday, but All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is "not likely" to play after he reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday.
