The Los Angeles Chargers’ running back room continues to unravel. Hassan Haskins has been ruled out for Thursday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings with a hamstring injury, per Eric Smith of the Chargers’ official site. Haskins’ absence leaves rookie Kimani Vidal as the clear lead back, with Omarion Hampton (ankle) still on injured reserve.
Los Angeles now faces yet another short-week challenge with a thin rotation. With Haskins sidelined, expect one or both of Nyheim Hines and Trayveon Williams to be elevated from the practice squad to provide LA with some additional backfield depth.

On Tuesday, the Chargers moved to stabilize their depth, signing veteran running back Trayveon Williams to the practice squad. The 28-year-old brings versatility and special teams experience after five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Williams, a 2019 sixth-round pick out of Texas A&M, spent last year appearing in all 17 games primarily on special teams. He briefly joined the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad earlier this season before landing in Los Angeles. His addition offers insurance for a backfield that has been stretched thin by injuries.
The Chargers’ backfield has been decimated by injuries throughout the season. Najee Harris is out for the year with an Achilles injury, and Hampton remains sidelined. Haskins had been nursing a chest injury before exiting Sunday’s 38–24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
ESPN’s Kris Rhim reported during the game, “RB Hassan Haskins just limped off the field. He was struggling to put weight on his right foot. Trainers working with him on the sideline.”
With Vidal now the last healthy primary back, Los Angeles may need to lean even more on Justin Herbert’s arm against Minnesota. As one report summarized, “Perhaps this is nothing more than precaution for the Chargers, but the depth is paper-thin right now.”
