Chargers make another coaching change
© Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers are making sweeping changes. After a historic defeat on Thursday night to the Las Vegas Raiders, enough was enough. The chargers dropped to 5-9, and their staff is getting cut down aggressively.

On Friday morning, head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco were relieved of their duties.

Now, they've cut ties with Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach Jay Rodgers.

Rodgers joined the staff with Staley in 2021 as the run game coordinator and outside linebackers coach. He moved to the defensive line in 2022. Clearly, his role was ever-changing under the young HC.

Rodgers has been on the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos staffs over the past handful of seasons as well before his stop in Los Angeles.

According to the Chargers team social media, the team named Giff Smith interim Head Coach and JoJo Wooden interim General Manager.

It's notable that offensive coordinator Kellen Moore did not get the interim tag. His future in LA is unknown.

Regardless, the firing of Rodgers adds another log to the fire. Los Angeles needed to clean a house built by Staley and Telesco. They're doing exactly that to try to right the ship moving forward.
