Chargers News: Guard Zion Johnson Unveils Toughest Rookie Season Matchup
USA TODAY Sports

Reflective on his rookie campaign, Charger 2022 first-round pick Zion Johnson answered many questions about his first season in the NFL.

In an interview with Chargers.com, the former Boston College product mentioned that his toughest blocking assignment came from a divisional foe known for getting to the quarterback.

"It was definitely Chris Jones. He just has a huge skill set. He's a guy that can really switch it up on you and can play the game in so many different areas. Like, he could be an elusive guy for one half and then a power guy for the other half. There's not too many guys that can do that and be successful."

Jones wasn't just a tough cover for the Bolts' offensive line, but a majority of units across the league struggled to prevent the Chiefs' defensive star from getting home to the quarterback.

Named a First Team All-Pro for the first time in his career, Jones racked up 15.5 sacks for the eventual Super Bowl champs in Kansas City.

Johnson shouldn't be ashamed of his answer in the slightest, as Jones is one of the best the NFL has to offer regarding rushers, but he remains determined to get better in his sophomore campaign in the NFL.

Fellow offensive lineman Rashawn Slater has already given the younger Johnson advice on improving for the 2023 season, a year where the Bolts want to build momentum from their previous playoff appearance in January.

Los Angeles has some impressive pass rushers of their own, two of which Slater mentioned he's had fun competing against early in camp.

Another battle for AFC West supremacy is on the horizon, and with the preseason around the corner, Charger fans await what's in store for the team this upcoming year.
