Injuries have seriously piled up for the Los Angeles Chargers , with key players such as left tackle Joe Alt and edge rusher Khalil Mack set to miss time.
The front office has looked to the free agent market and tried out five players, and ended up signing two to their practice squad. With that being said, here are the newest members of the LA club.
Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?
The undrafted free agent out of Villanova originally signed on with the Seattle Seahawks after the draft, but was unfortunately let go during preseason roster cuts. At 6’1 209 lbs, he’s a big and physical defensive back, who excels in run defense.
With an RAS (Relative Athletic Score) of 7.49, Waxter brings decent athleticism, though his size and play recognition ability are what’re intriguing. He’ll definitely be a developmental player who could even switch over to safety in order to maximize his traits.
The Chargers have also added offensive lineman Michael Dunn (6’5 315 lbs), who has spent the past 5 seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
Dunn has played in 53 games so far, with 9 starts under his belt, bringing some much-needed experience. He’s also taken snaps at both tackle and guard, which highlights his positional flexibility.
With how decimated they are along the offensive line, Dunn could see himself elevated to the active roster in the coming weeks to be a depth option if more injuries occur.
Due to the addition of these two new players to the practice squad, the Chargers have waived CB/S Myles Purchase, who has been with the team since April, as well as releasing OLB Rashad Weaver, who was signed just two weeks ago in light of Khalil Mack’s injury, to make room for them.
