The Los Angeles Chargers are "working to hire" Baltimore Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz as their next general manager, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Chargers had been on the lookout for a new general manager since they parted ways with Tom Telesco in November. Telesco served as Chargers general manager for 11 years.
Los Angeles interviewed multiple candidates for its general manager opening. Among them, the AFC West side touched base with Hortiz twice this month, which included an in-person interview with him last week.
Hortiz has been in the NFL since he joined the Ravens as an area scout in 1998. He was later handed the title of Ravens director of college scouting in 2009 and was then promoted to Ravens director of player personnel in 2019.
Hortiz closely worked with Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and team general manager Eric DeCosta during his run as Ravens director of player personnel. He is now set to tag along with Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh.
A crucial offseason sure awaits both Hortiz and Harbaugh.
