Chargers Predicted To Poach Major Eagles’ Playmaker
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Los Angeles Chargers head into the NFL offseason on a high note after hiring Jim Harbaugh to be their next head coach. Everyone knows how good of a coach Harbaugh is and there is no question that the team will take a leap forward simply by adding him to the mix. Now, it appears that the Chargers could try to poach a major offensive playmaker from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

D’Andre Swift is coming off of a successful season in his first year with the Eagles. However, he is set to hit the free agency market. No one knows whether or not he will end up back with Philadelphia.

For the Chargers, the running back position may become a position of need. Austin Ekeler is set to hit free agency as well and Los Angeles may not want to pay up to keep him. If they do let Ekeler walk, Swift would be an excellent replacement and a great scheme fit as well.

CBS Sports has predicted that the Chargers will end up landing Swift in free agency this offseason.

“Swift shattered his career numbers as an explosive lead ball-carrier for the Eagles, but his role was curiously scattershot down the stretch, and Philly’s preferred bargain-bin running back deals. He could have more interest elsewhere. Projected team: Chargers.”

Speaking about the numbers that Swift put up in 2023 with the Eagles, let’s take a look at them.

Swift ended up carrying the football 229 times for 1,049 yards and five touchdowns. He lost out on a lot of touchdowns due to Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ “Tush Push.” In addition to his rushing totals, Swift caught 39 passes for 214 yards and another score.

Looking at the Chargers, they are used to utilizing their running back as a dual-threat in the offense. Ekeler has been among the league’s elite when it come to being a dual-threat back. Swift is the exact same kind of player.

It will be interesting to see where D’Andre Swift ends up going in free agency. The Eagles are sure to have interest in bringing him back, but the Chargers could be looming as a threat to poach him.
