Chargers RB JK Dobbins’ Reaction to Game-Winning TD vs. Bengals

The Los Angeles Chargers cemented themselves as one of the NFL's hottest teams with Sunday's 34-27 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a back-and-forth affair that came down to the wire before running back JK Dobbins scored a 29-yard touchdown with 18 seconds remaining, giving the Chargers enough of a lead to seal their fourth win in a row.

The game-deciding play was the latest impressive play in Dobbins' impressive comeback season. After injuries recently plagued his career, the veteran runner has remained healthy this season and it's resulted in one of his best campaigns to date.

Following the Chargers' latest victory, Dobbins was asked to reflect on how much the crucial play meant to him after being forced to overcome his injury history.

"I just want to thank Jesus," Dobbins said, per Chargers Central.  "All the stuff I've been through, I just keep praying, keep working hard."

The 25-year-old RB didn't want to hog all of the glory, though, ensuring that his teammates also received their figurative flowers.

"I got these dudes with me, man," Dobbins said about his teammates. "Amazing, you see what they do. So I just follow behind them."

It was a productive day for the Chargers backfield, which averaged a whopping 6.2 yards per carry. Dobbins played a big role in that success as he turned his team-high 11 carries into 56 yards and a pair of touchdowns, also hauling in his lone target for another three yards.

The win appeared to be in the bag for the Chargers as they led by 18 points at halftime. Victory began to fade away, though, in the second half when the Bengals scored three straight touchdowns to put Jim Harbaugh's squad on its heels.

Fortunately, Dobbins stepped up to ensure that his team wouldn't have to risk losing in overtime.

Since being drafted 55th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020, Dobbins has dealt with more severe injuries than the average player can handle. He's had every leg-related injury under the sun from an ACL tear in Year 2 to when he tore his Achilles tendon just last season

Despite all the obstacles in his way, Dobbins has found a way to thrive in a Chargers uniform. He's thrived in Harbaugh's run-heavy offense and his performance has gotten to the point where he's even receiving buzz as a potential NFL Comeback Player of the Year nominee.

"JK Dobbins never gave up," ESPN's Sam Block posted following the Chargers' Week 11 win. "He should be the NFL Comeback POY."

It isn't hard to agree with Block based on what Dobbins has accomplished thus far. Through his first 10 games, the former Ohio State RB has rushed 152 times for 726 yards and eight TDs while hauling in 25 catches for another 115 yards. If he doesn't miss another game, he's on pace for career highs in both rushing yards (1,265) and scores (14).

Dobbins will aim to make another impact when he faces his former team, the Baltimore Ravens, for the first time in Week 12. The Ravens have one of the season's best run defense and will be hungry to send a message after falling 18-16 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
