Chargers respond to Emmanuel Acho calling Justin Herbert a 'social media quarterback'

Emmanuel Acho had some harsh criticism for Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert recently, but just because the criticism is harsh that doesn't necessarily make it true.

The Chargers certainly didn't think so.

Acho, a former NFL linebacker turned talking head for Fox Sports, called Herbert a "social media quarterback" What he meant by that was that Herbert is flashy and his plays get a ton of play on social media, but the social media hype around Herbert may not tell the whole story of his ability.

“On social media, they don’t show you interceptions. That’s not fun,” Acho said.“People aren’t gonna retweet a pick. People aren’t gonna retweet a bad sack. People aren’t gonna retweet a bad decision. That’s who Justin Herbert is, a social media quarterback.”

As mentioned, the Chargers took exception to those thoughts from Acho. They took so much exception, in fact, that someone in the LA social media department put out a video specifically to refute Acho's claims.

It was well done and well worth watching:

Of course, in Acho's defense, this video doesn't necessarily prove him wrong. He wasn't arguing that Herbert likes social media and the spotlight. The Chargers' video made it abundantly clear that Herbert likes to keep a low profile.

What Acho was criticizing was the fact that social media loves Herbert's highs, but it seemingly ignores his lows. Herbert has thrown seven interceptions this season, including one in each of his last five games.

You hear a bunch about how great the third-year quarterback out of Oregon is, but you don't seem to hear much criticism of him.

That is Acho's point, and awesome video be damned, the Chargers didn't refute it.
