Chargers Rookie Omarion Hampton’s Projected Stats Revealed

Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton is one of the most exciting rookies in the league and has the potential to put up huge stats in Jim Harbaugh’s offense. A first-round pick, Hampton’s physical, downhill style of running is a perfect match for Harbaugh’s old-school philosophy and the Chargers strong offensive line. On top of that, the UNC product is dangerous enough as a receiver to stay on the field on all three downs.

Based on talent and fit, Omarion Hampton has the potential to put up insane stats as a rookie. However, with veteran Najee Harris also in the backfield, the UNC product may need to wait before earning the full-time job. In a recent article, Bleacher Report‘s Alex Kay projected Hampton to finish his rookie season with 202 carries for 902 yards and seven touchdowns while adding another 42 receptions for 302 yards and two touchdowns.

Omarion Hampton Projected Rookie Stats

Based on Kay’s projections, it appears as though he believes Hampton and Harris will split carries for the duration of the season. Frankly, this is a safe projection, as a contender like Los Angeles would probably prefer to place their faith in a proven veteran than an untested rookie. Harris lacks Hampton’s elite upside, but he’s a solid starter with a proven track record of success in Pittsburgh. Now playing behind a better offensive line with a good quarterback, he could be in line for his best season if Hampton weren’t around.

This is similar to what happened with Javonte Williams in 2021. Entering the league as an early second-round pick, the fellow UNC running back began his career splitting snaps with a good-but-not-great veteran starter in Melvin Gordon. When the dust settled, Williams finished the year with 203 attempts for 903 yards and four touchdowns. Gordon, meanwhile, recorded 203 attempts for 918 yards and eight touchdowns. Don’t be surprised if history repeats itself and Omarion Hampton finishes with similar stats to Najee Harris before inheriting the full-time starting job in 2026.
