Chargers Send 5-Word Message to Mike Williams After Retirement Announcement

The Los Angeles Chargers have done a lot this offseason to try and bolster their roster around Justin Herbert and set the offense up for success over the next couple of years. One of the few positions that still needed some work, though, was the wide receiver corps.

That position group took a hit on Thursday with the surprising retirement announcement from WR Mike Williams.

Earlier this week, it came out that Williams was going to start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after dealing with an unspecified injury. It was believed to be a minor injury, but Williams still opted to announce his retirement on Thursday.

After the announcement, the Chargers posted a classy message on social media for Williams, sending a simple five-word message to the veteran pass catcher.

Williams played for seven seasons with the Chargers, hauling in 309 balls for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns. After spending his first seven seasons in the league with Los Angeles, Williams made brief stops with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, but returned to LA this offseason as a free agent.

It ended up that he was coming back to California to finish his career.

Now, with Williams out of the picture, the receiver position is in dire need of a boost for the Chargers. Ladd McConkey leads the way, and there are players like Quinten Johnson and Tre Harris, but outside of that, Los Angeles doesn't have a lot of proven production.

We will see if Harbaugh decides to make a move before the season begins, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them do something, especially with an All-Pro receiver like Terry McLaurin reportedly unhappy with he situation in Washington with the Commanders.
