The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping for some positive injury news ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. After a dominant 37-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football, the Bolts were forced to navigate multiple injuries to key defensive players.

James and Becton on Track for Chargers Practice

Star safety Derwin James Jr. left the game early with a low-ankle sprain, and starting left guard Mekhi Becton also exited with a knee injury. Both players are expected to return to practice on Wednesday, according to Jim Harbaugh, who told reporters, as reported by Kris Rhim.

James, who had played every defensive snap in the game before leaving, is a cornerstone of the Chargers’ defense. His versatility—as a blitzer, nickel corner, and safety with elite instincts—makes him irreplaceable. Harbaugh’s confidence that James can return to practice is a welcome sign for the Chargers’ defensive rotation.

Becton’s return is equally significant. The veteran left tackle provides stability on the offensive line, and his presence will be crucial as Los Angeles continues to deal with an injury-depleted roster.

Still Likely Out vs. Titans

Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?

Cornerback Tarheeb Still, who also exited Thursday’s game with a knee issue, is likely to miss Sunday’s contest. Still has been one of the Chargers’ top slot defenders, and his absence will put more pressure on Ja’Sir Taylor, Nikko Reed, and other secondary depth players to step up.

R.J. Mickens, the rookie sixth-round pick from Clemson, showcased the next-man-up mentality with a standout performance against Minnesota, recording his first career interception and playing 73.5% of the defensive snaps. Veteran safety Tony Jefferson also returned to the lineup after a hamstring tweak, while Elijah Molden continues to manage a lingering hand injury.

Chargers Hope Rest and Matchup Work in Their Favor

The Chargers will benefit from extra time off following their Thursday night contest. Their matchup against the 31st-ranked passing offense of the Titans gives Los Angeles a chance to navigate these injuries while keeping their playoff hopes alive in a competitive AFC West.

While James and Becton’s return provides optimism, the extended absence of Still remains a concern. Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jessie Minter will likely rely on depth and flexibility to compensate as the Bolts aim to continue their winning ways.
