The Los Angeles Chargers made some big additions during the 2026 offseason. Los Angeles nailed the 2026 NFL Draft, adding playmakers on defense and reinforcing the trenches on the both sides of the ball. The Chargers just made one more addition following the conclusion of rookie minicamp.

The Chargers have agreed to terms with former Browns tight end David Njoku on a one-year contract worth up to $8 million, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Cleveland drafted Njoku in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Njoku played nine seasons for the Browns logging 384 receptions for 4,062 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns. He also made the Pro Bowl during the 2023 season after logging 81 receptions for 882 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Njoku is past the best days of his career, but he still at least one more good season in the tank. He looked good during the 2025 campaign in Cleveland, but the emergence of Harold Fannin Jr. limited his production.

Now Njoku finds himself in a much better situation in Los Angeles. He gets a major upgrade at quarterback in Justin Herbert and will play for a popular head coach in Jim Harbaugh.

This is unquestionably a good move for both sides. However, Njoku will still have to carve out a role for himself in LA’s offense.

The Chargers already have Oronde Gadsden, who had an incredible rookie season with 49 receptions, 664 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Njoku must prove his value to the Chargers as a pass catching threat if he wants to earn snaps over Gadsden.

LA also added blocking tight end Charlie Kolar during NFL free agency, given them more beef for their running game.

It will be fascinating to see what kind of role Njoku can command during the 2026 NFL season.
