Chargers Suffer Double Punishment on Saturday

The Los Angeles Chargers suffered their second loss of the season in Week 5, bowing to the Washington Commanders 27-10 in front of their home fans at SoFi Stadium.

Jim Harbaugh's side had no answer for quarterback Jayden Daniels and rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Daniels threw for 231 yards and one touchdown, while Croskey-Merritt dominated on the ground with 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Justin Herbert recorded just one touchdown for the Chargers, while also being intercepted once.

As if the defeat wasn't enough, however, the Chargers got more bad news on Saturday after the NFL announced that two of their players had been fined.

Rookie linebacker Marlowe Wax received a $4,672 fine for a roughing the kicker offense. To recall, in the second quarter of the Commanders game, Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey's 57-yard punt return for a touchdown was called back to Wax's actions.

Interior lineman Otito Ogbonnia was also hit with a $6,554 punishment for unnecessary roughness. Ogbonnia sustained the penalty for his hit on Daniels in the fourth quarter of the showdown.

For what it's worth, the Commanders did get fined, too. Running back Jeremy McNichols was fined $7,292 for unnecessary roughness when he lowered his helmet on a crucial drive to get a first down in the third quarter.

The Chargers face the Dolphins next at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. Sure enough, aside from hoping to get the win, L.A. will look to avoid any costly penalty after the double whammy its players received.
