Chargers Tease New Alternate Uniforms Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

Year after year, the Chargers have maintained a reputation for having some of the NFL’s most stylish uniforms. From the classic royal blue and gold of the Fouts era to the iconic powder blue that made LaDainian Tomlinson look like a superhero under the San Diego sun, the team has continually set the standard for uniform excellence.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Chargers released a teaser video across their social media platforms, hinting at two new alternate uniforms slated to debut during the 2025 season. The post quickly sparked speculation among fans, many of whom began analyzing every frame of the clip for clues.

With the NFL now allowing alternate helmets, teams across the league have embraced throwback aesthetics, leading fans to speculate whether a couple of throwback uniforms are on the horizon. This leaves Chargers fans wondering: Which era is next?

Will it be the powder blue and navy design with helmet numbers that defined the team in the 1960s and '70s, or perhaps the clean, modern look of the navy-and-white ensembles worn in the early 2000s?

Based on the teaser’s imagery, particularly the royal blue hue of the rolling storm clouds, many believe a return to the late ‘70s to early ‘80s Fouts-era uniforms is likely. The bold royal blue and gold from that period were symbolic of one of the team’s most electrifying offensive periods.

Regarding the second alternate, incorporating a darker, navy-oriented uniform makes sense given the bright powder-blue and gold uniforms currently in rotation. This modern tribute to the sleek look of past Chargers teams would create a striking contrast with the brighter uniforms worn today and pay fitting respect to multiple generations of Bolts football.
