According to Tom Pelissero , the Chargers are waiving QB Max Duggan on Monday.
He was Los Angeles’ No. 3 quarterback and had been attempting to make a push for the backup job.
This leaves Easton Stick and Luis Perez as the only two healthy quarterbacks on the roster right now with Justin Herbert still recovering from a plantar fascia injury.
Duggan, 23, was a Heisman trophy finalist and led TCU to the national championship game during his senior year. He was also a first-team All-Big-12 selection, unanimous second-team All-American and the Big-12 Player of the Year.
The Chargers drafted Duggan in the seventh round of the 2023 draft. He signed a four-year, $3.9 million rookie contract with Los Angeles, but was waived coming out of the preseason and re-signed to the practice squad.
Since then, Duggan has been on and off of the Chargers’ roster, returning on a futures contract for the 2024 season.
Throughout his four-year career at TCU, Duggan appeared in 47 total games. He completed 739 of his 1,225 pass attempts (60%) for 9,618 yards, 73 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions. He also added 1,856 rushing yards on 488 attempts (3.8 avg) and an additional 28 touchdowns.

It is no secret that the relationship between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys is not on solid ground, but that does not necessarily mean it is tarnished beyond repair. On the latest episode of his podcast, which was released on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter predicted that Parsons and the Cowboys are "headed towards divorce." Schefter said the two sides have not spoken since April and that it seems like a matter of when — not if — they part ways. Longtime NFL reporter Josina Anderson was told the situation is not quite that grim, at least from the Cowboys' perspective. Anderson reported on Tuesday evening that the relationship between Parsons and Dallas "has not deteriorated to the point of an imminent divorce." "I did not detect any obvious tones of concern in my sourced conversation when I recently asked about ESPN's Adam Schefter's report stating he sees 'these two sides headed towards a divorce, in time.' ... I just feel Dallas has so much history with protracted (and) sensitive negotiations, thus my current impression is the club remains unrattled, at this time," Anderson wrote in a post on X. Parsons is earning just over $24M in the final year of his rookie contract this season. The 26-year-old had 12 sacks in 13 games last season and has 52.5 sacks in 63 career games. Parsons is arguably the best pass-rusher in the NFL when healthy. Although Parsons has formally requested a trade, the Cowboys maintain that they have no intention of dealing their four-time Pro Bowl defensive end. The only real leverage Parsons has is creating a headache in Dallas. He remains under contract, and the Cowboys also have the ability to use the franchise tag on him in each of the next two seasons. If Parsons were to sit out regular-season games, his contract would eventually toll. Even with Jerry Jones publicly taking shots at Parsons, one massive contract offer could change everything.
The White Sox snapped their four-game losing streak on Monday night at Truist Park in emphatic fashion. The offense had been quiet of late, scoring just five runs over the last four games, but it exploded for a season-high 13 runs and 19 hits in the 13-9 victory. Brooks Baldwin, Luis Robert Jr., Lenyn Sosa and Kyle Teel each hit home runs and eight White Sox drove in at least one run. The only starter who did not record a hit was rookie shortstop Colson Montgomery, who left in the sixth inning with what the team announced as left side soreness. After working a seven-pitch walk, Montgomery was seen grimacing and placing his hand on his side while standing on first base. He stayed in the game as Sosa gave the White Sox a 10-1 lead with a three-run home run in the next at-bat. But when the team came out for the bottom of the sixth inning, manager Will Venable made some defensive changes. Curtis Mead entered the game at first base, Lenyn Sosa moved to second base, Chase Meidroth shifted to shortstop to replace Montgomery. "I just took a swing on a foul ball and I kind of felt a little bit of a stretch," Montgomery said postgame, per MLB.com's Scott Merkin. "But I mean nothing crazy or anything like that. Got on first and they saw I was feeling for it and they asked me if I felt something and I was like yeah, but nothing too serious." Montgomery, 23, made history earlier in the season as he became the first rookie and the youngest player in White Sox history to hit 10 home runs in an 18-game span from July 22 to Aug. 11. It took Montgomery just 32 games to hit 10 home runs, good for the third-fastest pace in White Sox history. Zeke Bonura hit 10 home runs in his first 25 games in 1934, and in 2014 Jose Abreu slugged 10 long balls in 26 games, per MLB.com's Sarah Langs. Following his 10th home run, Montgomery's OPS had risen to .876 and he ranked third in MLB with 24 RBIs since the All-Stat break. He's cooled off since that point, though, going 3-for-24 with one double, no home runs, two RBIs, one walk and eight strikeouts over the last six games. A 2021 first-round draft pick, Montgomery was the White Sox top prospect from 2022-24. Through 38 games and 145 plate appearances, he's slashing .220/.285/.492/.777 with 10 home runs, four doubles, 19 runs, one triple, 28 RBIs, 11 walks and 42 strikeouts. He's tied for fourth among White Sox position players at 1.0 wins above replacement, per FanGraphs. The White Sox continue their three-game series in Atlanta on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. CT.
The latest saga between the Washington Commanders and RB Brian Robinson Jr. came out of nowhere, but it's been developing at a high rate even since the news got out. On Monday night, Robinson Jr. was held out of the preseason game and wasn't even present at the stadium. The move I expected to happen signaled a couple of messages from the Commanders, and the writing is on the wall for the outcome. Robinson Jr's time is coming to an end Once the news came out that Robinson Jr. wasn't even at the stadium for the preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, we all knew that he was headed out of Washington. Commanders HC Dan Quinn said after the game that they spoke to Robinson Jr. on Saturday and let him know their decision, and also addressed the team about what was going on. If you're getting trade offers for a player, you aren't putting them on the field to get injured, but Robinson Jr, not even being with the team, spoke volumes about what's to come. There are a handful of teams that could likely reach out for Robinson Jr, and things could happen quickly, as they already have been. Adam Peters has shown in his short time here that if you don't fit the future plans of the team, he has no hesitation in making a move that may be bold to those on the outside. He also drafted his guy in the seventh round of the draft this offseason, in Bill Croskey-Merritt, and the hype has been real before the season even started. Croskey-Merritt sure helped his case on Monday night, too. Commanders' running game will be fine without Robinson Jr. The team wouldn't move on from Robinson Jr. if they believed they needed him to be the lead back on the offense, and we got our first look at the running game on Monday night. Deebo Samuel got things started with a 19-yard jet sweep, showing his vintage speed and ability as a runner. Then the running backs decided to take over, and Chris Rodriguez broke off a 40-yard gain up the C-gap, which set up Jayden Daniels' 14-yard touchdown scramble. Croskey-Merrit took his second carry of the game to the house for a 27-yard touchdown on a GT counter to the right, and it felt like the turning of a page of what's to come. The offensive line is improved, they found the steal of the draft in Croskey-Merritt, and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has more weapons to open up the playbook and actually run the ball effectively this season. Life after Robinson Jr. might not be as bad as fans might expect it to be.
