Chase Claypool draws NFL interest in his comeback bid

Chase Claypool’s NFL comeback bid has attracted at least one team’s attention.

The free agent wide receiver worked out for the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, per the NFL’s transaction wire. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that Claypool left the building without signing, but could still be in play for the Colts going forward.

Claypool just turned 28 earlier this month, but he has not played an NFL snap since 2023. The man who once claimed to be one of the three best receivers in the NFL has struggled with injuries, but also has drawn criticism for his on-field effort and has been heavily criticized for some mental mistakes he has made.

Claypool does have NFL success to his name, though it has been a while. He totaled 1,733 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons with the Steelers, but quickly fell out of favor there. He has also had stints with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. His attempts to find a new team were unsuccessful for 2025 after he missed all of 2024 due to injury.

The Colts have Josh Downs and Alec Pierce at the top of their wide receiver depth chart, but would presumably like some additional depth. Whether Claypool can provide that remains to be seen.
