The New Orleans Saints were expecting to have Derek Carr under center as their starting quarterback in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. However, a new report has come out that has called that into question.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Carr is dealing with a shoulder issue that has threatened his ability to play during the 2025 season.

Behind Carr, the next man up would be Spencer Rattler. While the Saints are high on Rattler, he may not be ready to start right now.

Another option could be exploring a new long-term quarterback in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.

That is exactly what former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel has suggested for New Orleans. He sent a five-word message about what the Saints should do next.

In a post on X, Daniel urged New Orleans to target either Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart in the draft. The first round will begin on April 24 and the Saints currently own the No. 9 overall pick.

"Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart," his post read.

Sanders has started being projected to slide in the first round. There is a legitimate chance that New Orleans could land the Colorado Buffaloes' standout.

Dart, on the other hand, could be a trade down candidate for the Saints. They could add extra draft capital and still land him.

Carr is coming off of a 2024 NFL season that saw him play in just 10 games. He completed 67.7% of his pass attempts for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Back in 2023 in his first season with New Orleans, Carr threw for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while completing 68.4% of his passes.
