Heading into Week 17 of the 2025 NFL season, Myles Garrett is on the brink of history. With 22 sacks, the superstar defensive end needs one more to break the single-season sack record.
T.J. Watt and Michael Strahan currently share the single-season sack record at 22.5. With two games remaining, that mark is well within reach for Myles Garrett.
Since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, Garrett has a chance to be the first player to reach the 23 mark. Doing so would cement his place in NFL history and solidify his Hall of Fame résumé.
The Cleveland Browns‘ remaining schedule provides a tough test for Garrett to break the record. Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals offensive lines rank in the NFL’s top five for lowest pressure rate allowed.
The good news for Garrett is that both units rank in the league’s bottom five in average time to throw.
From a mobility standpoint, neither quarterback remaining on the schedule is necessarily known for extending plays with their legs. At Aaron Rodgers’ age of 42, he is past the point in his career where he can rely on improvisation, although he can still do it. Joe Burrow has scramble ability but is more of a pocket passer. Both matchups will provide Garrett with the opportunity to get the record.
Garrett even chimed in on the opportunity to get the record this week against Rodgers. “[Rodgers is] legendary himself, and it’s a legendary record I’m here chasing,” Garrett added, “That’d be a great one to put a picture on the wall with.”
The superstar defensive end has a chance to make history over the next two weeks. At his current pace, Garrett is well-positioned to break the record.
With Sunday marking the Browns’ final home game, breaking the record in front of Cleveland fans would make the moment even more special.
