Chicago Bears Announce Team's Name Won't Be Changing

Much like how the New York Jets and New York Giants didn't change their names when they moved out of the state of New York, the Chicago Bears have no plans to change their names if they move out of the city of Chicago.

Bears chairman George McCaskey confirmed that, despite the ongoing decision-making process over moving the team to Hammond, Indiana, the team will not be changings its name.

“No. We will be the Chicago Bears whether we’ll be in Arlington (Heights) or in Hammond,” McCaskey said this week.

But McCaskey was still willing to acknowledge that the Bears leaving their century-long home of Chicago will still feel stressful for fans.

“Yeah, we feel that anxiety. We feel that stress,” McCaskey said. “We talked about this in March. It’s going to require an adjustment. But when I’ve driven that route, other than a sign telling me so, I wouldn’t know that I’ve just crossed the state border. And as Kevin [Warren] said, once people see the building, once they get in there, once they understand that our top priority from day one was a world-class stadium experience, we think we’ll make that adjustment. We think Bears fans are up for that.”
