There were fewer than 50 seconds left on the clock, and another Chicago Bears game appeared to be slipping away. Minnesota had just taken a late 17-16 lead, and the atmosphere at U.S. Bank Stadium felt tense. Devin Duvernay fielded the ensuing kickoff and burst up the right sideline for a stunning 56-yard return that changed everything. Moments later, Cairo Santos connected on a 48-yard field goal as time expired. Chicago escaped with a dramatic 19-17 win, and once again, the Bears refused to fold.

As the dust settled on Week 11 in the NFL, the Bears find themselves as the overall leader in the NFC North. For the first time since the Matt Nagy era in 2018, Chicago sits atop the division standings over halfway through the season. Bears Nation, the Ben Johnson effect is definitely real.

Three Straight Comebacks, Three Different Heroes

This victory continues a clear pattern that has developed over the last three weeks. The Bears have won three straight games in comeback fashion, with each victory featuring a different hero at the right moment. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, rookie tight end Colston Loveland secured the winning touchdown from Caleb Williams. Against the New York Giants, Williams delivered clutch plays that carried the offense in the closing minutes. Sunday in Minnesota, the special teams unit stepped up as Duvernay and Santos closed the door.

Winning Ugly Is Becoming A Strength

These wins have not always been clean or comfortable, which is part of their significance. Chicago held a 16-3 lead in Minnesota, yet still allowed the Vikings to rally late. In recent seasons, games like this often ended in disappointment rather than victory. In 2023, the Bears blew multiple fourth-quarter leads of more than ten points. Unfortunately, the trend continued during several one-score losses in 2024. Those seasons were defined by frustration, but this team is writing a very different script.

Chicago still shows signs of inconsistency, but they fight through adversity in ways they once struggled to match. They look more confident in the closing minutes, and that belief seems to be growing each week. Someone new steps up in each victory, and that depth has created a healthier and more competitive atmosphere. The players appear to be confident in their ability to win in high-pressure situations. That belief is becoming a defining part of this team’s new identity.

The Final Seven Games and A Rising Challenge

The most important stretch of the season begins now, and the Bears must elevate every part of their game. They will open the final stretch at Soldier Field against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon. Chicago may catch a break if Aaron Rodgers cannot play due to a wrist injury. If that’s the case, expect to see Mason Rudolph starting in his place.

After that, the Bears travel to meet the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday. Their next three games feature a home game with the Cleveland Browns and two division games against Green Bay. Finally, Chicago faces a Sunday night bout with the 49ers and a season finale showdown with the Lions. The final seven games will not only determine who claims the division crown, but also will shed light on who punches their ticket for the postseason.

A Defense That Must Improve Immediately

If Chicago wants to win the division and make a meaningful playoff run, drastic improvements are needed on all three phases of the game. The defense continues to allow a high number of yards each week. Additionally, the unit gives up over 26 points and over 230 yards passing per game.

Opponents average more than 360 total yards each game, and the secondary remains the most vulnerable area of the team. That trend could shift as the group is poised to return to full strength. Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson was activated last week and may start within the next two games. Nickel corner Kyler Gordon should be activated from injured reserve this week or next. Tyrique Stevenson remains uncertain due to lower back issues, but he could also return during this important stretch.

A healthy secondary will give the front seven more freedom to apply pressure, collapse pockets, and force quarterbacks into mistakes. Chicago already leads the league with nineteen takeaways, which has helped offset the yardage allowed. If the defense stabilizes, the Bears become a far more complete team during the most demanding part of their schedule. The next seven games will determine if Chicago is a true contender or another pretender.

End Of My Comeback Chicago Bears Rant

For Chicago fans, this season has brought stress, relief, and genuine excitement. The Bears have their flaws, and leave the door open for opponents far too often, but something meaningful is happening. They are fighting through chaos, responding in critical moments, and refusing to let games slip away.

Chicago’s wins might be messy, but they reveal the foundation of a team learning how to grow, compete, and believe in themselves. If the Bears continue to mature, their wins will become the building blocks of something far more powerful down the stretch.
