The Chicago Bears have made a significant number of improvements to the roster throughout the offseason. However, general manager Ryan Poles still has some chances to add talent before Week 1. Whether in free agency or trade, there are quality players still available. Let’s take a look at who one outlet believes the Bears can trade for ahead of the 2026 season.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport wrote an article discussing players who need a fresh start and their landing spot. The Bears were mentioned with edge rusher Maxx Crosby, who they’ve been linked to throughout the offseason. Below is a snippet of why Davenport believes this could happen:
“Despite a clear need at edge-rusher, the Bears did little in free agency or this year’s daft to address the position. Crosby is saying all the right things, but there is no way his relationship with the team that shut him down against his will last year and then tried to trade him to Baltimore is perfectly harmonious. Chicago has Super Bowl aspirations in 2026, and the Raiders will be fortunate just to be chasing a playoff berth by 2028. Vegas needs to add young assets.”
The projected starting edge rushers for the Bears are Montez Sweat and Austin Booker. After a season with one of the lowest sack totals in the sport, it is interesting to see the front office not address the hole on the roster outside of drafting Jordan van den Berg in the sixth round. Could they be waiting for Crosby’s price to drop, or be interested in a veteran free agent? It is also possible that Poles is happy with the defensive additions, and that will help the team going forward.
Whichever way the Bears wind up going with their edge rushers, it will be intriguing with all of the possible ways they could have decided. Time will tell if they make this trade, trade for another disgruntled star, or go in a different direction.
