Chicago Bears could trade recently benched player for Day 3 pick

The Chicago Bears are 4-2 entering a big Week 8 contest at the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The Bears record might indicate the team would be a buyer at the trade deadline on Nov. 4.

General manager Ryan Poles has made two big trades for players in his first four seasons, adding wide receiver Chase Claypool in 2022 and defensive end Montez Sweat in 2023, even when those teams weren’t screaming “playoffs.”

However, the Bears could look to trade some players they have no chance of re-signing for 2026. Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic believes that recently benched left tackle Braxton Jones could be shopped before the deadline, if any team wants the 26-year-old offensive lineman.

“On a basic level, Jones is a true trade candidate,” Fishbain wrote. “He’s in the last year of his rookie contract and it doesn’t seem like he’ll get extended. But what have other teams seen on tape during the first four games to make them interested?

“He barely won a four-man competition, then lost the job to an undrafted player from Canada. Last year’s ankle injury was significant and hindered Jones’ ability to get back to his top form.”

Fishbain suggested the Bears could get a similar compensation as to what the Jacksonville Jaguars received from the Minnesota Vikings last season for Cam Robinson, a conditional fifth-round pick.

Theo Benedet would remain the starter at left tackle, while rookie Ozzy Trapilo would be bumped up to swing tackle.

Joens started in the first four games of the season before the Bears turned to Benedet to give the offense a spark.
