The Cleveland Browns’ offense was dealt a big blow ahead of Sunday’s showdown against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
Thursday, the Browns placed running back Jerome Ford on injured reserve, after he suffered a shoulder injury in last week’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, ending his 2025 campaign.
Ford, 26, saw his role diminished a bit after the arrival of Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins.
However, the four-year veteran still appeared in 13 games for the Browns, rushing for 73 yards on 24 carries while adding 32 catches for 103 yards and serving as Cleveland’s kickoff return specialist.
Losing Ford could hamper the Browns’ running game on a day where every yard could come at a premium.
The weather forecast on Sunday calls for bitter cold temperatures, with the high only reaching 12 degress and the potential for winds out of the West Northwest touching 20 miles per hour.
How the Bears are able to contain the Browns’ ground attack could go a long way towards determining Sunday’s game, especially if Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski is reluctant to ask rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders to frequently air it out in frigid and windy conditions.
Chicago enters Sunday’s contest boasting the NFL’s 27th-ranked rushing defense, allowing opponents an average of 132.5 yards rushing per game.
Cleveland being at less than full-strength in the ground game could give an edge to coordinator Dennis Allen and the Bears’ defense, especially given the forecasted conditions at kickoff.
