Williams finished 25-of-38 for 285 yards and one interception against Baltimore. He added three rushes for 24 yards. But his interception was costly, as it set up a Baltimore touchdown two plays later to make it a 23-13 game in the fourth quarter.

During an appearance on 670 The Score’s “Mully & Haugh” on Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs was asked if he has seen enough improvement from Williams this year.

Biggs didn’t sound too confident.

“Maybe it’s better from the Saints game but it wasn’t good enough. Better in this instance–was not enough,” Biggs said. “Was Caleb Williams the reason they lost the game Sunday? No. Was he outplayed by Tyler Huntley? Yes, he was.

“When your No. 1 overall pick is outplayed by QB5 from the August edition of the Cleveland Browns, that’s not good enough. So they’ve got to stick with it.”

The Chicago Bears expected more

Williams finished the game with a quarterback rating of 77.2, going against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.

Williams and the offense need to show improvement when they travel to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. While the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner hasn’t played to the level many fans expected during his first two seasons in Chicago, he’s made some growth from his rookie season.

Williams needs to become more consistent for the remainder of the season. He’ll have a chance to do that against the Bengals struggling defense.
