Through the first four weeks of the 2026 season, the Chicago Bears lead the league in rushing, averaging 196.3 yards per game. Kyle Monangai has played a key role in helping Chicago hold the top spot.
Overall, the running back has gained 324 yards and three touchdowns on 60 carries. But in Week 4 against the New York Jets, Monangai truly broke out. He earned a career-high 30 carries, running for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
In the process, the second-year runner helped the Bears set a new franchise record with 34 first downs. Chicago relied on their run game throughout. holding the ball for 42:45 minutes. That fact Monangai averaged nearly five yards a carry helped Chicago bleed the clock.
Both he and D’Andre Swift will continue to lead the rushing attack. Monangai is aware opposing defenses know the Bears want to run the ball.
Actually stopping the rushing attack is an entirely different story. The Jets saw the Bears run the ball 54 times and couldn’t find an answer. Monangai is asking opposing teams in the league what they’re going to do when they face the same challenge, via CHGO.
“We all know that we’re going to run the football, Monangai said. “We know it, the other team knows it, everyone watching in the stadium and at home knows it. That just goes to show the testament that we put the time in and to still stick to what we know we’re going to do.”
“We just say, you got to come stop us,” he concluded.

Through his first four games, Monangai has already nearly doubled his production from his rookie campaign. Head coach Ben Johnson will continue to lean on him as long as he stays consistent.
With an early revolving door at quarterback, Chicago has had to rely on their run game over the last two weeks. But even with Caleb Williams under center, the rushing attack remains a priority.
The Bears are preparing for a Week 5 matchup against their rival Green Bay Packers. Monangai wants to see if they can stop what Chicago is doing on the ground.
