The Chicago Bears took the field on Wednesday for the start of their second week of voluntary OTA practices. One of the biggest questions regarding the team is the plan for the left tackle position. Braxton Jones is still recovering from a broken ankle and has yet to take the field. Jones is not expected to return until potentially training camp in July, leaving the Bears with two options: Kiran Amegadjie and Ozzy Trapilo.

Amegadjie got reps with the starters during last week’s practices, and Trapilo got all reps with the starters on Wednesday.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson spoke with the media on Wednesday following practice, and he seemed to confirm that there is a competition brewing at left tackle.

The Bears’ head coach confirmed that they will be rotating between Trapilo and Amegadjie until Jones returns from injury. Johnson noted that he wants to give “everyone an opportunity”.

“We’re moving guys around. We want to give everybody an opportunity. Darnell we feel pretty comfortable keeping him on the right side right now. So the left side until we get Braxton in the mix is going to be a bit of musical chairs”

Another very interesting thing to note is what Johnson told the media regarding the right tackle position, stating, “anything is on the table”. However. Johnson did say that they will continue to keep Darnell Wright at right tackle for now.

Ben Johnson said the plan for right tackle is “to be determined.”

When asked about the right tackle position, Johnson said it is “to be determined”.

“To be determined. Anything is on the table. We’re going to let the plan play out which is keep him there for the time being and let these guys battle it out on the left side. We can decide to change course whenever we need to.”

Could this be a sign that the Bears are considering moving Wright to the left side? It’s way too early to tell, but anything is possible. It’s still expected that Wright will be starting at right tackle during the Week 1 opener against Minnesota.
