Chicago Bears: Moore Gives His Opinion On Team
Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

As the season ends, the Chicago Bears now prepare for a historic offseason. Wide receiver DJ Moore spoke about what he’d like for the team and offered coaching criticism.

With the 2023 season in the books, the Chicago Bears now face some daunting tasks. This year’s team made a big improvement over last season’s 3-14 team. Of course, the moves made by General Manager Ryan Poles made that possible.

Now Poles finds himself in a similar position. He once again owns the top pick in the NFL Draft. He made a historic trade with the Carolina Panthers. In addition to acquiring wide receiver D.J. Moore, the Bears acquired a boatload of draft picks, including the number one pick in this year’s draft.

Having Moore was a godsend for the Bears. It would be difficult to see where the offense would be without his 96 catches, 1,364 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns.

What Moore provided was his leadership as well. He worked with rookie receiver Tyler Scott on improving his route-running and positioning for the ball. Additionally, he garnered a great relationship with quarterback Justin Fields as well.

Moore has also been a vocal leader for the team. He will speak out on things that his other teammates won’t say. He isn’t afraid to speak out publicly, whether the team likes it or not.

Moore backed wide receiver Darnell Mooney when he criticized the playcalling by offensive coordinator Luke Getsy playcalling.

As we all know, what the Bears do with Fields is the biggest topic of conversation at the start of the offseason. Do the Bears keep Fields and make another franchise-changing trade with the number one pick? Do they keep the pick, draft a quarterback, and reset the position?

Moore is not silent on his opinions

While the team is understandably mum on the subject, Moore certainly is not. He expressed his desire for the Bears to keep Fields and build around him, feeling that is a better option to go with. He’s been advocating for Fields in talks with the media. Now he advocated for him in the team’s exit interviews conducted on Monday after the season’s final game.

I bored him up, of course. I mean, he’s the quarterback of the Chicago Bears until otherwise, and I don’t think that’s changing anytime soon…For Justin to be here? It’ll be amazing. Nobody really wants to start all the way over and either have a losing season again or maybe have a … Joe Burrow? You could have that kind of season. You never know. It’s a hit or miss.

You can understand why Moore loves Fields so much. In just their first season together, Moore had career-highs in catches, yards, and touchdowns.

In addition to backing Mooney up on Getsy, Moore had his own critique, and it doesn’t sound good for the coordinator.

Moore said he was open and honest in his exit interview with the team. They talked about his season. He said he took the time to also be honest about the offense.

When a player takes time to provide feedback on how something is run, one of two things is usually true — it is being run very badly or it is being run very well. The way the offense fared this season it likely is the former and not the latter.

It is great to have someone like Moore on the team holding accountability. Accountability is not just on the player’s side, though. It should also be held on the coaches. We will see how accountable the coaches will be.
