Chicago Bears News: Caleb Williams takes shot at former coach Matt Eberflus’ time management

Can we all collectively agree on something?

The fact that Matt Eberflus is no longer the coach of the Chicago Bears is a true blessing. How he lasted this long, doing this poor, is still beyond me. When the team fired him the morning of November 30th, just hours after his timeout debacle in Detroit, fans rejoiced on social media like the team had just won the Super Bowl.

They weren’t the only happy ones. Even some players in the locker room couldn’t contain their excitement. This was a long overdue decision that needed to be made much earlier, but what’s done is done.

Now, the Chicago Bears focus turns to their new head coaching search, which has already become complicated with a long list of candidates. Obviously, they need to really hit on this next guy.

Current face of the Bears franchise Caleb Williams must have been happy as well. He appeared on Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown’s podcast this morning, and seemingly took a shot at Eberflus’ time management, stating the obvious.

When asked about his ideal head coach, he explained his selfishness in wanting an offensive minded guy. He then took what seemed to be a shot at Eberflus’ infamous clock management woes.

If we get an overall, grand scheme coach, and he’s good with time management, good with the clock, um helping control the game. It’s a big factor obviously, when we (Lions vs Bears) played the first time, at y’alls place. Big factor is helping control the clock

It’s obvious Williams is referring to the blunder at the end of the Chicago Bears loss to the Detroit Lions in November, just a day before Eberlfus was fired. The Thanksgiving debacle that costed the Bears a chance to either tie the game with a field goal, or win the game with a touchdown was entirely on Eberflus and his staff for not calling timeout in a timely manner. Anyone watching could’ve told you that.

Hard to blame Williams for taking a shot here. He’s gone through a lot with the media and internally with the Chicago Bears during his rookie season, I can’t imagine it’s easy.

That’s why Ryan Poles needs to hit this head coaching hire out of the park. He and the organization cannot waste any more time. I fear they are overcomplicating it, but we shall see what they do in the coming days or even weeks.
