Chicago Bears rising star chirps at Pro Bowl snub

The Chicago Bears dominated in the fan vote, with 11 players sitting atop their respective position.

Interestingly enough, pretty much the only Bears player that wasn’t promoted by the fan base was kicker Cairo Santos, a hero in Chicago’s win over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night.

(However, many fans wanted the team to promote Jake Moody when he was on the practice squad before being signed by the Washington Commanders.)

Players and coaches also vote for the Pro Bowl. The Bears got three in: OL Drew Dalman, OL Joe Thuney and S Kevin Byard.

Nahshon Wright was an obvious snub. The cornerback leads the NFL with three fumble recoveries. He’s also tied for second in the league with five interceptions. He leads the league in takeaways.

Wright responded to be a Pro Bowl snub, suggesting he should have earned the nomination based on the amount of turnovers he’s generated for the 11-4 Bears.

“I would say I was probably more hopeful than anything,” Wright said, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “I mean, you’d think if you lead the league in takeaways, that’s gotta count for something, right? It’s cool just coming from what I had to overcome.”

Jaycee Horn (Carolina Panthers), Devon Witherspoon (Seattle Seahawks), Cooper DeJean (Philadelphia Eagles) and Quinyon Mitchell (Eagles) made the NFC Pro Bowl roster as cornerbacks.

DeJean and Mitchell were on the other end of a Wright turnover, when the cornerback showcased how to beat the Tush Push in the Bears’ 24-15 win over the Eagles on Black Friday.

For whatever reason, those heroics weren’t enough for Wright to get the nod into the Pro Bowl. But the Bears wouldn’t be 11-4 without Wright. His strip of Packers running back Josh Jacobs in the red zone during the first quarter of Saturday night’s game helped keep the Bears in the game.
