Chicago Bears Sign Brett Rypien and Matt Pryor

The Bears have another backup quarterback option besides Tyson Bagent.

They have signed quarterback Brett Rypien and also added journeyman tackle Matt Pryor as a depth player.

Rypien, the nephew of former Washington quarterback Mark Rypien, has stated four games and played in 10 during his four-year NFL career with the Broncos and the Rams. However, he was with the Seahawks and their practice squad from Nov. 10 through Dec. 4 last seaason, so he is a bit familiar with Shane Waldron's offense. The Jets signed him off the Seahawks practice squad on Dec. 5 and he finished last season on their roster.

Rypien is 98 of 168 for 950 yards and four touchdowns with nine interceptions and a passer rating of 59.0. 

Rypien was initially an undrafted player with the Broncos in 2019 but became a free agent in 2023.

Pryor, 29, has started 24 of the 75 games he has played. He's 6-foot-7, 332 pounds, and last stated in 2022 for the Colts. He was with the Colts in Matt Ebeflus' final season with them, in 2021, and started five games. In 2022 he stated nine games at tackle.

Pryor's longest stint as a starter was 10 games in 2020.

Last year Pryor was with the 49ers. His career started with the Eagles in 2019 as a sixth-round pick out of TCU.

He'll come in as competition for backup tackle Larrry Borom, and has also played guard at points in his career.
