The Chicago Bears added eight players in the 2025 NFL Draft ahead of Ben Johnson's first season as the team's head coach.
They went to work on signing multiple undrafted free agents shortly before the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, and the team was able to add some solid players to round out their rookie class. One player especially has the potential to make the rest of the league seriously regret passing on him.
Oregon safety Tysheem Johnson is one of the most intriguing Bears UDFA's. He began his career in 2021 at Ole Miss, where he spent his first two seasons. He transferred to Oregon ahead of the 2023 season and spent his final two years as a Duck. At Oregon, he was able to put his ball hawk ability on full display. He recorded five interceptions and eight pass deflections. He also played multiple roles for Oregon, lining up as a deep safety, slot corner, and in the box at a significant rate.

Johnson doesn't have great size, so it makes sense that some teams would take him off the board as an option for them to draft. His ability to make plays on the ball and natural instincts in coverage make him an intriguing player to watch during the Bears' upcoming training camp. He will be able to compete to be the team's backup FS behind Kevin Byard III and the backup behind Kyler Gordon as their slot CB. And Byard isn't getting any younger, so who knows, maybe Johnson will be able to impress the team enough for them to try and prioritize developing him into their starting FS of the future.
