It seems likely that they will be without a key part of their run defense at least for a few weeks. Head coach Ben Johnson has now confirmed that the Bears’ defense will be without linebacker TJ Edwards.

According to Michael Dwojak of Bears insider, Johnson confirmed to the media that Edwards had surgery on a fracture in his hand. This will then rule the Bears’ linebacker out for Sunday’s game against the Bengals.
Regarding the long term aspect of the injury, Johnson gave an encouraging update. The belief around the Bears’ staff is Edwards won’t need to go on injured reserve. This could mean that Edwards will only be out for a minimum of three weeks.
This could lead to a potential return at the end of November against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hopefully Edwards can return to full strength. The Bears’ linebacker signed an extension with the team this past offseason and is a key part of the defense, particularly in the run game.
