The trade deadline came and went at 4 p.m. EST, and yes, wide receiver Rome Odunze is still a member of the Chicago Bears.
That shouldn’t have been much of a surprise. The Bears invested heavily in Odunze by making him the No. 9 pick the 2024 draft.
However, Rome’s father, James Odunze, appeared frustrated with his son’s lack of targets in the Bears’ 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
He posted a pin emoji of a post on X suggesting Rome should be traded to a team that will throw him the ball more often.

Odunze is actually the Bears’ leading receiver with 473 yards and five touchdowns on 31 receptions through the team’s first eight games. He caught no passes on three targets against the Bengals, a week after he recorded 114 receiving yards on seven catches in a 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.
When talking to reporters on Thursday, Odunze addressed James’ comments, saying that his father’s opinions were different than his own.
“I don’t make a big deal out of it,” Odunze said, via Dan Wiederer of The Athletic. “Obviously he has his opinions and I have mine. And he feels like he needs to voice those things on social media. That’s his prerogative. But he speaks for himself. I speak for myself…
“At the end of the day, he’s a Rome fan. He’s in full support of Rome Odunze. So that’s first and foremost for him. But I love my Pops.”

The Week 9 game was not the norm for Odunze.
Expect the second-year reciever to gain more targets when the Bears host the New York Giants on Sunday.
