After spending over a year out of football, longtime Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is joining the second team of his career. The eight-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler is signing with the Chiefs’ practice squad, Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star reports. Tucker and former Ram Harrison Mevis were among three kickers to work out for the Chiefs, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Between Tucker and Harrison Butker, the Chiefs now have two of the most accomplished kickers in recent history in their building. Butker remains the Chiefs’ No. 1 option, but the three-time Super Bowl champion may be losing his grip on the job amid a rough start. He made just 11 of 16 field goals, including 2 of 6 from 50-plus yards, over the Chiefs’ first six games. The normally accurate Butker’s 68.8% success rate ranks 28th among 32 qualifying kickers.
The 36-year-old Tucker, a member of the 2010s All-Decade Team, converted 89.3% of field goals during his 13-year run in Baltimore. Tucker ranks second all-time in that category, and according to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer, he drilled all 30 attempts in his tryout with the Chiefs. Despite that, Tucker isn’t a lock to provide a solution in Kansas City. In 2024, his most recent season, Tucker went 22 of 30 on field goals and registered a personal-worst 73.3% conversion rate. He also connected on a career-low 96.8% of extra points.
Tucker remained on the Ravens’ roster for a few months in 2025, but they released him that May after 16 massage therapists accused him of inappropriate conduct. The league found enough evidence to suspend Tucker for 10 games last year. While a handful of teams have showed interest in Tucker since his suspension ended, it took until now for him to find a team. Tucker may not get a chance to kick immediately for Kansas City, but if Butker’s woes continue, the club could make a midseason change.
