Chiefs already eyeing chance at first NFL three-peat. But it won't be easy

In Super Bowl LVIII, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, becoming the eighth team to repeat as champions. Following the thrilling victory, they aim to do something no club has ever done: win three straight Super Bowls.

"I'm going to celebrate tonight. I'm going to celebrate at the parade," Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Sunday night, via ESPN's Dan Graziano. "And then I'm going to come back and do everything I can do to be back in this game next year and get that three-peat."

Winning another championship will be difficult, however, as Kansas City must address roster holes and try to maintain its core.

Stars, such as defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, will enter free agency in March. Jones' market value is a three-year deal worth $28.4M annually, the second-highest at his position, while Sneed's market value is a four-year deal worth $16.3M annually. Spotrac estimates the Chiefs will have $22.63M in cap space, so they might be unable to foot the bill.

Although wide receiver Rashee Rice emerged as a viable option at the end of the season, Kansas City should improve its wide receiving corps. Per Pro Football Reference, the unit led the league in drops (44). Tanakthon projects the Chiefs will select Oregon WR Troy Franklin with the 32nd overall pick in the NFL Draft.

But with Mahomes at the height of his powers and head coach Andy Reid and tight end Travis Kelce expected to return, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Chiefs overcome these challenges and find a way to win their fourth title in six years.
