The Kansas City Chiefs have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.
However, that might be the last of their concerns right now. As big a hit as that loss was, Patrick Mahomes' injury stole the spotlight.
The former MVP suffered an apparent knee injury on the Chiefs' final drive of the game after a hit from Da'Shawn Hand, and he had to be carted off the field.
All present at Arrowhead Stadium held their breath as Mahomes was helped to the locker room, and coach Andy Reid just shared a worrisome update.
"It didn't look good," Reid said, per Chiefs insider Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports. "We'll see where it goes."
Mahomes will reportedly undergo an MRI tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury, but it seems like he's looking at a long time on the shelf.
If he sustained an ACL injury, his status for the start of next season could be in jeopardy.
The Chiefs had no incentive to play Mahomes or any of the starters in the final three games of the season.
And with Travis Kelce mulling retirement, Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos might be the last time he laces them up at Arrowhead Stadium.
This was a fitting end to a disappointing season by the most dominant team in recent years, and it'll be interesting to see how they bounce back from this.
