The Kansas City Chiefs and superstar Patrick Mahomes have missed a true deep-threat wide receiver since the departure of speedster Tyreek Hill.
Despite drafting another lightning fast wideout in Xavier Worthy, the young pass-catcher was in a pressure-packed situation with two valuable teammates sidelined with injury. Worthy had an excellent end to his rookie year, but he expects to see more production from the receiving corps collectively in 2025 with everyone healthy.
Training camp is just around the corner and Worthy spoke with Kay Adams about the mindset Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is instilling in his team, one that could preview an offense focus this season.
"Coach Reid told us during OTAs and phase one that, when you come back, get your hamstrings ready," Worthy recalled after Adams posed a question about implementing deep passes to the offense more and more.
"We kind of knew that we were going to be going a little deep in practice, so we kind of got our bodies and got our minds ready to what we were doing in practice."

Worthy will be joined by Hollywood Brown, who missed the entire season last year with a broken collarbone, and Rashee Rice, as he recovers from a season-ending Week 4 knee injury. Mahomes will also rely on his tight ends, as he typically has, with future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce and Noah Gray as security blankets.
The former Texas Longhorn receiver and NFL Combine 40-yard dash king averaged 10.8 yards per reception as a rookie, but with a fully-healthy core around him, he could see a major jump in fly routes this year to boost that stat.
Last year, the Chiefs ranked second-to-last in the NFL in completions over 20 yards through the air with just 12. Kansas City also ranked low with 42 total passing plays going for at least 20 yards in 2024.
But KC still found a way to put up points. Reid and Mahomes seem to always keep the offense humming, regardless of what phase isn't working as well as before.
With a revamped receiver room and greater emphasis on passes downfield, this Chiefs offense can be as dangerous as ever in their quest for an unprecedented fourth straight AFC title.
