  • The Kansas City Chiefs shut out the Las Vegas Raiders 31-0 at Arrowhead Stadium, with Patrick Mahomes throwing three touchdowns.
  • Rashee Rice returned from suspension, caught two touchdowns, boosting the Chiefs’ offense.
  • The Chiefs marked a record not seen in the last 14 years with their defensive performance.

The Kansas City Chiefs dominated the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Both teams entered this matchup with high hopes as they took on the latest edition of this storied AFC West rivalry. The Raiders, however, proved no match to Patrick Mahomes and Co. in this one as the Chiefs cruised to an impressive 31-0 victory at Arrowhead Stadium.

Mahomes led the charge for Kansas City with 25-of-35 completed passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. The two-time All-Pro quarterback also had four carries against the Raiders for 28 rushing yards.

The Chiefs have improved to 4-3 and have now logged back-to-back wins.

A crucial development for the Chiefs heading into this Week 7 matchup was the return of wide receiver Rashee Rice. The former second-round pick suffered a season-ending injury last year, which put an end to his sophomore campaign after just four weeks. Rice was then involved in a vehicular accident, which ultimately led to a six-game suspension from the NFL.

Rice served his punishment in the first six games of this season, and the former SMU Mustangs star returned with a bang on Sunday. Rice caught seven passes from Mahomes for 42 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Rice was integral to Kansas City’s offense putting up 31 points over the Raiders. However, it was their defense that achieved a milestone not seen in the last 14 years. The Chiefs took to social media to announce a rare feat after Sunday’s defensive masterclass.

“That’s our first regular season shutout since 2011 ” the team posted on X.

The last time the Chiefs shut out an opponent in the regular season was on Oct. 23, 2011. Incidentally, it was the Oakland Raiders who were also on the wrong end of that record as Kansas City defeated them with ease, 28-0.

The Chiefs’ last shutout, however, came on Jan. 9, 2016, after they destroyed the Houston Texans in the 2015 AFC Wildcard Game, 30-0.

As for Sunday’s shutout, the Raiders were missing a couple of key offensive players in the game in tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. However, this should not take away from the Chiefs’ defensive dominance.

The defense worked as a collective unit, limiting the Raiders to just 95 total yards and three first downs. Las Vegas also went 0-for-7 on third-down conversions. The Chiefs forced the Raiders’ offense to be predictable, and they executed crucial stops consistently in order to prevent Vegas from getting any real momentum in the contest.

Kansas City’s defense will be put to a tougher test in its next game. They battle Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders in a Week 8 matchup at Arrowhead Stadium. It’s going to be a “Monday Night Football” showdown for these two sides on Oct. 27.
